The Safety Health & Security Manager has the overall responsibility for the compliance of the safety and risk systems with the OHSAS standards and all other legal requirements. She/he develops and continuously improves the safety and risk systems, behaviors and culture of the site. This is measured against aligned KPI’s, and ensures appropriate change management in projects. Contributes to the achievement of the plant’s CBN and is responsible for development of the organizational capability to get the expected results (LTA & NM=0). Provides leadership, direction setting and coaching for his plant. Is responsible for the implementation of systems and standards (Road map’s enablers) and takes part of their development when needed. Creates an environment where Health Checks ensures sustainability of results and uses internal and external benchmarks to drive performance improvement. Contributes and supports reapplication of Best Practices. Optimize, harmonize and continuously develop the quality systems in the supply chain. Implement SPC approach in all relevant production and non-production areas with the aim to reduce losses.

Position in the organisation:

  • Reporting to Site manager
  • Participates in the Site Leadership Team
  • Participates in the European safety manager network. Meeting 1-2 per year.

Main accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Is a Role Model for Safety, Quality and environmental awareness;
  • Communicates the Safety CBN and objectives to the plant;
  • Shows intellectual curiosity and the willingness to develop;
  • Actively participate to departments DOMs on a regular basis;
  • Witness CIL and Maintenance on the lines;
  • Leads Near misses and LTA’s Investigation with Root Cause Analysis + Follow up;
  • Coaching on the job: MSRA/JSA-BOS-IHBE;
  • Road map implementation;
  • Implements and secures all HMEx safety standards;
  • Leads working sessions on Machine Safety Risk Assessment, Isolation of Hazardous Energy, ladders-steps-stair etc.;
  • Leads reapplication through plants network;
  • Accountable for the Department Budget, Identify CAPEX needs to support midterm plans;
  • Head of the BHV: coordination and leader of “BHV” emergency situations in the organization, management of the emergency plan, securing of employability of the emergency response organization (training, tools);
  • Prevention Officer: preparation of risk analysis and evaluation (RI&E's), implementation of preventive measures (plan of action);
  • Responsible for the site security (incl. reception function Hgzd): manage external security services;
  • Advise and work with the works council with regard to occupational health and safety policy and HSE (Safety, Health, Welfare and Environment);
  • Chairman of the HSE committee;
  • Support and coach the operational departments on QRESH issues;
  • Obtain and manage OHSAS 18001 certification;
  • Control and manage al safety related documents and support systems;
  • Create safety procedures and training material, organize safety training;
  • Participate in project teams about large changes to installations (e.g. capex projects);
  • Carry out audits (e.g. BOS), safety (QRP) at projects and maintenance activities;
  • Set and maintain standards for Chemical Safety (hazardous materials);
  • Create safety rapports/reviews (e.g. incidents, KPI score cards);
  • Provide effective feedback to the management team quality and environmental concerns and issues;
  • Manage ISO norms (like 9001, 14001 etc.) system for on-going compliance and effectiveness & BRC product safety management system for on-going compliance and effectiveness;
  • Set up and maintain quality, environmental and energy metrics and identify areas for improvement;
  • Monitor data to ensure target levels are achieved and reports effectiveness of all management systems by sharing metric performance with management;
  • Audit & benchmark the internal quality and environmental systems to stimulate development (e.g. Waste Water plant improvement projects);
  • Manages customer and consumer product complaints process as well as neighbor complaints;
  • Supports the implementation of the Global Hygiene Supplier Standard;
  • Quality and Environmental incident reporting and rood cause investigations;
  • Responsible and accountable for the Environmental performance;
  • Manage EU Ecolabel and Nordic Swan certification;
  • External social compliance audits, authority visits, Environmental reporting to government, Non-Government Organization’s and SCA internal;
  • Improve chemical management (e.g. chemical approval & gap assessments);
  • Investigate alternatives for our main waste streams (sludge & rejects);
  • Manage legal environmental obligations (Pulp & Paper bref, Local, IED etc.);
  • Manage the site assets and use form a risk perspective;
  • Organize Risk assessments and manage risk mitigation.


  • Finalized bachelor (HBO) education in a relevant field;
  • Training BHV Basic and Head of the BHV
  • Training of “Prevention Officer”“
  • Knowledge about health and safety policy and other relevant regulations
  • Minimum 5 years experience in a comparable position in industry;
  • Willing to follow training courses in the QRESH field
  • Strong mathematical, technical and analytical skills
  • Risk, Health, Safety, Environmental & Quality Program expert
